Weaves on the wave

Date

30 june - 9 july, 10:00-20:00

Place:

PSTP Gdynia
Al. Zwycięstwa 96/98

The exhibition Weaves on the Wave combines the love for basketry - a traditional craft - with design. It is the result of workshops of the Serfenta Association and the Faculty of Industrial Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.

Serfenta exists so that basketry may live on and the FoID helps it by co-creating successive editions of basketry workshops. During the last 3 joint meetings they have dealt with a bulrush, straw and wicker. Students designed completely innovative products, based on traditional weaving techniques, with new purposes and with the addition of non-standard materials. The idea of the workshops is to revive traditional craftsmanship through design.

"In the surrounding chaos, let us appreciate the native production and what is associated with quality, locality, warmth" - Anna Szwaja, PhD, Krakow Academy of Fine Arts.
