For the sixth time Elle Decoration in co-operation with Gdynia Design Center, acting as a patron, had organized a competition “Młodzi na start” (“Young Talents”) aimed at beginning designers, students and graduates of art schools. The theme of this year's edition was "SMALL INTERIORS, GRAND DESIGNS!"
This year's slogan of the competition required the participants to precisely understand the task and to answer the question: what are the problems faced by a small space dweller?
On the one hand, even in the smallest apartment we cannot do without furniture with specific dimensions (bed, table, sofa). On the other hand - the fitting of a small apartment must meet certain requirements. The designer, while creating furniture for a small space, should think through whether the furniture should have additional functions or whether it should be modular, should it be integrated with the interior architecture. Or maybe on the contrary - they should be simple and light enough to be easily moveable and what materials should they be made of?
The subject of the competition required designers to seek innovative solutions. It was not just about designing small furniture but about rethinking its function, form, and the selection of materials. Because grand design is quality design.
At the exhibition we will see how "SMALL INTERIORS, GRAND DESIGNS!" were interpreted by young designers.
